Mysore Ramachandrachar mesmerizes Chennai devotees

Hare Srinivasa,

It was 3PM on a quite Sunday afternoon in Chennai on 12th Feb, when all roads lead to Triplicane for the great Dasara Padagalu concert by our Mysore Sri Ramachandrachar. The event was held at Triplicane Uttaradi Mutt sponsored by Sri Sridhar Narasimman. By the scheduled time of 4PM, only very few people were there but Achar and team were all set to start the program on time. Soon the crowds swelled in and everyone was taken to a different level of ecstasy by the wonderful performance of Sri Ramachandrachar for the next 3 hours.

This is my 3rd program and this time I got a chance to watch from very close quarters sitting near to him and was in wonder all along by having a look at those beautiful pictures of the Lord, Idols and Kshetras he exhibited during the show. They were just superb and very apt to the pada/song he sang. From the moment he started the “Guru Madhwa Rayarige Namo Namo..” song, the momentum is set and no looking back then. Achar delivered another excellent rendering of great dasara kritis during which the audience was spellbound and none bothered to have a look at their watches or elsewhere. It is not an exaggeration to say Acharu simply captivated the audience till the end. He sang the famous songs including “Rayo Baro“, “Hanuman Ki Jai“, “Hanuma Namma Thayi Thande” and of course the eagerly awaited “Kolu Kolenna Kole“. And needless to add, when Kolu song was on, everyone from kids to elders were on their feet no matter whether they are holding the stick or not. We have heard in many pravachanas by pundits, our manasu is always wavering and very difficult to control even while indulging in sacred pooja / parayana / listening to pravachana etc., but here with Achar’s simultaneous twin delivery of vocal and lord’s pictures, I would say he was successful to a great extent in holding our thoughts and attention.

When he ended every song, I couldn’t help but think about Sri Vadirajaru’s Theertha Prabhanda grantha. As we know Rajaru visited all those sacred places and described in detail on the significance for our benefit in Theertha Prabhanda. Here our dear Achar takes us through a virtual tour of all kshetras by showing us the images right from Badari Narayana to Karur Thanthonimalai Kalyana Venkataramana Swamy during his concert. I have read in Sumadhwa Vijaya mahakavya by Sri Narayana Pandithacharyaru on the detailed description of Vaikunta Varnane in 11th chapter wherein it is mentioned, the muktha souls were always in a state of bliss in Lord’s abode undeterred by anything, here with the double feast for our ears and eyes, Sri Acharu has kept us all in a state of delight through the show asking for more! Kudos to Sri Venkatesh who played the Violin and Sri Murali(Mridangam). Both of them performed very well and were complementing Acharu perfectly all through.

The next event by Sri Ramachandrachar in Chennai is not far away, we can watch him again on 28th Feb at Tiruvallur during the “Sri Raghavendra Saptaaha Mahotsava” celebrations. You can track and know the monthly programmes and other information on Achar in the following web site:

In case you are not able to turn up at Tiruvallur, tune in to for the Live coverage of all the events.

I travelled a long distance for this program and it was worth it certainly and on the way back, I didn’t miss to grab few Audio CDs of Acharu and was holding them with pleasure like we take home Devara prasada after attending a pooja.
